Do Pressed Flowers Ever Go Bad? The Truth About Preserving Your Most Precious Blooms

It's one of the questions I'm asked the most.

"Will my flowers last?"

Sometimes people ask because they're curious.

Most of the time, I think they're asking because they're worried.

They're worried about trusting someone with flowers that mean so much to them. They're worried about spending months choosing the perfect bouquet, only for it to fade away. It's one of the reasons so many couples choose wedding flower preservation. They're worried they'll lose another piece of a day that already feels like it went by far too quickly.

I completely understand that feeling.

If I were handing over something that held so many memories, I'd be asking exactly the same question.

The honest answer

Yes, pressed flowers will change over time.

They're real flowers, after all.

Just like every flower in a garden changes with the seasons, the flowers inside your frame will gently age, too.

That doesn't mean they'll suddenly lose their beauty or fall apart.

When they're pressed with care and turned into a pressed flower frame, then displayed in the right place, they can be enjoyed for decades.

I actually have customers with pressed flowers that are still looking beautiful many years later.

I actually love that they change

This might sound a little unexpected, but one of my favourite things about pressed flowers is that they aren't perfect forever.

Some flowers keep their colour beautifully.

Others soften over time into more muted shades.

To me, that's part of their story.

Your wedding flowers won't look exactly as they did on the day.

Neither will your photographs.

The memories will change, too.

But none of that makes them less meaningful.

How to help your flowers last

Looking after your frame is actually very simple.

I always recommend:

• keeping it away from direct sunlight

• avoiding rooms with lots of moisture, like bathrooms

• hanging it somewhere indoors where the temperature stays fairly consistent

With a little care, your frame will continue to bring you joy for many years to come.

They're more than flowers

When someone asks me if pressed flowers ever go bad, I don't think they're really asking about the flowers.

I think they're asking,

"Will this memory still feel close?"

For me, that's what flower preservation has always been about.

It's knowing you don't have to throw something meaningful away.

It's turning flowers into memories.

It's creating a keepsake you'll look at every day.
