From Garden to Frame: June Flowers I'm Pressing This Month

Every month brings something new to the garden, and I always look forward to seeing what’s blooming. June is one of my favourites, there’s so much colour, so much life, and the flowers are just full of personality. The blooms, the scents, the little details, they all inspire me to slow down and really take it in. And, of course, to press them so I can preserve that beauty in a way that lasts.

At Earth Tone, my work is all about celebrating the natural world and bringing a little bit of it into your home. Every Pressed Flower Frame, Painting, Print, Mirror, and Soy Candle is made with love; each one featuring real, handmade pressed flowers that capture the spirit of the season.

Lately, I’ve been busy foraging and pressing a beautiful selection of June flowers, from delicate wild roses to bold, joyful poppies. So, come along and see what I’ve been working on this month, and why these blooms are perfect for turning into keepsakes you’ll treasure.

What’s Blooming in June?

When I walk through my garden and the nearby fields, I’m greeted by a wave of colour and texture. The wild roses are especially lovely right now, their soft pink petals curl gently around golden centres, and they have this delicate, timeless feel I can’t get enough of.

Oxeye daisies are popping up everywhere too, with their bright white petals and sunny yellow middles, like little bursts of happiness. The sweet peas are climbing up their supports, showing off pastel shades of lavender, pink, and rich fuchsia. Their tendrils reach for the sun, and they smell absolutely dreamy.

Then there are the poppies, vibrant and full of life. Their red petals feel like they’re in constant motion. And nestled between it all, I’ll spot little nigella (or “love-in-a-mist”), with feathery foliage and soft blue blooms that are so pretty and delicate.

What I love about June’s flowers is how different they all are, from soft and romantic to bright and bold. Each one has its own character. Pressing them lets me capture those details forever, and I can’t wait to turn them into something special.

How I Press My Flowers (The Simple Way)

Over the years, I’ve found a rhythm with flower pressing, it’s simple, really, but still feels like a little ritual. I always start by picking the best blooms I can find. Fresh, vibrant flowers press so much better and really hold their colour.

I snip them with a little bit of stem still attached, partly because it helps with placement later, but also because it keeps that natural feel. Then I place them carefully between sheets of paper in my press (or sometimes just in a heavy book), making sure they don’t overlap too much.

Once they’re in place, I press them under something heavy, usually more books, and leave them somewhere cool and dry. After a couple of weeks, they’re ready to come out. It’s always a lovely surprise to see how they’ve changed.

If you’re new to pressing flowers, my biggest tip is to try a few different kinds and play around with how you arrange them. Some of the most beautiful results come from just experimenting.

Turning Pressed Flowers Into Framed Art

Once my flowers are fully pressed and dried, that’s when the magic really begins. I go through them, choosing the ones that speak to me, maybe it’s the shape, the colour, or just a memory they bring back, and then I start planning the design.

I love creating bespoke frames for weddings, new babies, or just to brighten up a room. Each one is designed to suit the flowers and the story they tell. Sometimes I use rustic wooden frames for a soft, natural look. Other times, I’ll go for something modern and minimal to let bold flowers really shine.

Arranging the flowers is where I take the most care. Every petal, every stem, is placed with intention. It’s a slow process, but such a satisfying one. The result is a piece of floral artwork that not only looks beautiful but carries meaning too.

Why June Blooms Make the Best Keepsakes

There’s something special about the flowers that bloom in June. Maybe it’s the timing, weddings, anniversaries, and garden parties are in full swing. Or maybe it’s just the energy of the season, everything feels a bit more alive.

I once pressed sweet peas from a dear friend’s wedding bouquet, and to this day, that frame takes me straight back to that warm, love-filled afternoon. The colours, the memories, the feelings, it’s all there, pressed between glass.

Whether it’s a flower from your garden, a wedding bouquet, or just something that caught your eye on a walk, preserving it in a flowery frame means you get to keep that little piece of joy forever.

Bring a Bit of June Into Your Home

If you’ve got a bunch of flowers you’d love to keep, I’d be honoured to help. Whether it’s your wedding bouquet, a special gift, or a collection of your own garden favourites, I can turn them into a personalised piece you’ll always treasure.

At Earth Tone, I pour my heart into every piece. From pressed flower frames to mirrors and prints, everything is made with care and attention to detail. It’s more than decor, it’s a way to hold onto moments that matter.
