Spring Bank Holiday: What's Coming to Life

There is something about late spring turning into summer that always makes me want to slow down.

The Spring Bank Holiday arrives just as everything begins to open up again. The evenings stretch a little longer, the light feels warmer, and suddenly there are flowers everywhere. Windows are left open, gardens start overflowing, and the air feels softer somehow.

This time of year always feels full of life to me. Not in a loud way. In a gentle, steady way that makes you want to pause and notice it before it passes.

The colours I always notice this time of year

As the seasons shift, I always find myself drawn to different colours.

Soft pinks, butter yellows, fresh greens, faded whites, earthy lilacs. Colours that feel light, natural, and comforting. Gardens that looked quiet only weeks ago suddenly feel full again.

These seasonal colours always find their way into my work at Earth Tone. Without even realising it, I start reaching for softer tones, lighter flowers, and pieces that reflect what is happening outside.

Nature shapes so much of what I create.

Making in natural light

My studio changes completely during late spring and early summer.

The light stays longer into the evening and slowly moves across my workspace while I’m pressing flowers or arranging frames. Everything feels calmer in natural light. Slower. More connected to the flowers themselves.

I think that is one of my favourite parts of this season. Creating without rushing. Letting the flowers guide the piece naturally.

The flowers beginning to take over

Late spring flowers always feel especially beautiful to me.

Garden roses beginning to open, sweet peas climbing higher, daisies appearing everywhere, bunches of ranunculus with layers upon layers of petals.

After the quietness of winter, it suddenly feels like nature is everywhere again.

But this season always carries a small sadness too. Flowers change so quickly. One minute they are fresh and full of life, and the next they begin to wilt.

I think that is why flower preservation means so much to me.

It gives people permission to hold onto something they are not ready to let go of yet.

Why this season matters so much for weddings

Spring Bank Holiday weekends always feel like the beginning of wedding season.

Couples spend months choosing flowers that feel personal to them. Flowers tied to memories, colours, feelings, and moments they never want to forget.

Then the day passes so quickly.

One of the things I hear most often is, “I don’t want to throw them away.”

That is where pressed flower frames become so meaningful.

Instead of letting those flowers fade unnoticed, they become something lasting. A piece of your wedding day made to live on your walls, not packed away in a box.

Turning seasonal flowers into something lasting

Every flower I preserve is handled slowly and carefully.

Pressing flowers is never just about keeping the flower itself. It is about preserving the feeling attached to it too. The colour, the movement, the memory.

That is why handmade work matters so much to me. When something holds emotional value, it deserves time and care.

Each piece I create at Earth Tone is made to feel gentle, natural, and meaningful. A keepsake to treasure long after the flowers would have faded.

What this season is reminding me

One day this season will only exist in photographs.

The flowers will fade.
The long evenings will pass.
The gardens will change again.

It happens every year, and still it always feels too quick.

Before this season slips by, I think it is worth slowing down enough to notice what is blooming around you.

And if there are flowers from a moment you never want to lose, I would love to help you turn them into something you can keep and look at every day.
