Spring Equinox: What's Coming to Life?

The Quiet Turning Point of the Year

There is something very special about the spring equinox. It is the moment when day and night are equal, when the darker months begin to soften and the light slowly returns.

Spring never arrives loudly. It doesn’t rush in with heat or colour. It begins gently. A little more daylight. A slightly warmer breeze. The feeling that the world is beginning to wake up again.

For me, the spring equinox always feels like a turning point. After the long quiet of winter, the sun begins to stay a little longer each day. Those extra moments of light feel precious. They bring a sense of renewal that is hard to ignore.

This time of year always invites me to slow down and notice what is beginning to grow. Not just in the garden or the hedgerows, but in my own life too. Spring reminds me that growth rarely arrives all at once. It begins quietly. Small changes that slowly become something beautiful.

The First Signs I Always Look For in Nature

When early spring arrives, I find myself paying closer attention to the natural world around me.

The first flowers appear when the air is still cool and the ground feels heavy from winter. Snowdrops push gently through the soil. Crocuses follow in soft purples and warm golds. Soon after come the daffodils, turning their bright faces towards the light.

Before many of the flowers open fully, there are the buds. Tiny buds forming on branches, holding the promise of leaves and blossom. They are one of my favourite signs of spring. So much life waiting quietly inside something so small.

The bees begin to return as well. You notice more birdsong in the morning. The air feels fuller, almost busier. After the stillness of winter, these small signs of life feel hopeful.

I find real joy in noticing these quiet changes. Spotting the first bee of the year or seeing a bud begin to swell reminds me how steady and dependable nature can be. Seasons change, life continues, and the world keeps moving forward.

Why Spring Feels Like a Fresh Page

Spring always feels like opening a new page.

Winter closes a chapter with rest and stillness. Spring brings the feeling that something new can begin. Nature shows us this every year. Seeds begin to grow, roots stretch deeper into the soil, and new life slowly appears.

What I love most about spring is the pace of it. Growth happens gently. Nothing rushes. Flowers take their time to open and branches slowly fill with leaves. It is a reminder that real change does not need to happen overnight.

This time of year often brings a new wave of creative energy for me. After the quiet months of winter, I start to feel inspired again. The light in my studio shifts, the colours outside begin to change, and new ideas start to form.

Spring often brings fresh direction in my work. It feels like a season that encourages curiosity and creativity. A quiet reminder that we are always allowed to begin again.

Flowers Beginning to Return to the Garden

The flowers that arrive in early spring always feel particularly special.

They have waited patiently through the colder months and now push through the soil to greet the light. Hellebores appear first, often in deep shades and soft creams. Primroses follow with gentle colour. Slowly, the garden begins to wake up again.

Watching this process never loses its magic for me. One day a branch carries a small bud, and a few days later it opens into a flower. It is a quiet transformation that happens all around us.

These early blooms are often the first flowers I begin pressing each year. There is something meaningful about preserving flowers from this season. When I press a spring flower, I am holding onto that moment when the world begins to feel hopeful again.

This is where my work at Earth Tone begins. It starts with noticing beauty before it fades. Every flower I press becomes a small memory held in time.

Pressing Flowers During the Season of Growth

Spring is one of my favourite seasons for pressing flowers.

Walking through gardens or along hedgerows, I often notice flowers that feel special in some way. Sometimes it is their colour. Sometimes the shape of their petals. Sometimes it is simply the feeling they carry.

Each flower is pressed slowly and carefully. Over time it becomes part of a growing collection of preserved blooms waiting to be turned into something lasting.

Flowers from spring carry a feeling of hope that is hard to describe. They have pushed through cold ground to bloom again. When I hold a pressed flower from this season, I often think about that quiet determination.

At Earth Tone, my work centres around turning flowers into memories. A pressed flower frame is not just something to decorate a wall. It holds a moment, a story, or a feeling that someone wanted to keep.

Bringing the Feeling of Spring Into Your Home

One of the loveliest ways to stay connected to the feeling of spring is to bring a little of it into your home.

Floral artwork has a calming presence. It brings nature indoors and reminds us of slower, quieter moments outside. A pressed flower frame can hold the feeling of a particular season or a memory connected to a flower.

When nature becomes part of your home, something shifts. It becomes easier to pause. To breathe. To notice beauty in everyday life.

This is why I create the pieces I do at Earth Tone. Each frame is made with care and patience. They are designed to live on your walls and quietly remind you of a moment that mattered.

A Gentle Reminder to Notice What Is Growing in Your Life

Spring invites us to pause and reflect on what might be growing in our own lives.

New ideas. Fresh beginnings. Small changes that slowly take shape.

Growth rarely arrives all at once. It begins quietly, just like the first flowers of the season.

This week, take a moment to step outside and notice what is beginning to come to life around you. Look for the first blooms, the returning bees, the buds forming on branches.

If you spot a flower that feels meaningful, hold onto that moment. One day it might become a keepsake you treasure for years.

If you ever want to preserve a flower from a moment that matters to you, I would love to help you turn it into something lasting. A piece you can look at every day and remember why that moment was worth keeping.
